The Atavists
The Atavists is a new emerging quartet from Hradec Králové. The band’s music style can be described as an energetic mix of stoner rock, 60s surf music and blues.
Their sound is characterised by wall of dirty guitars, almost horror-like wail of distorted combo organ, and distinctive baritone of Adam Krofián, the band’s frontman.. In early 2016, the band released their successful debut album Bad Times. This year they released their second album Lo-Fi Life, which is also well received by critics and fans. Other highlights of the band’s busy life include winning the national round of GBOB in Berlin, and playing at major summer festivals in the Czech Republic, including Rock for People and Colours of Ostrava.
“The novel of Prague’s big-beat of 1959, Šakalí léta, translated for the present generation, and roots rock from Hradec Králové. The Atavists have no intention of experimenting with their sound and instead devote themselves to an archaeological dig into the history of American guitar music, which they rejuvenate and present to a contemporary audience tired of melancholic electronic pop. It works damn well on stage,” Radio Wave’s music editors said.
The band added: “I consider our strengths to be our sound and volume, and the fact that we have the oldest organ in Central Europe.”
